Veronica (Speedwell) Mix - Plant
Make sure the Speedwell root ball is soaked well prior to planting by placing in a bucket of lukewarm water if necessary. Prepare a wide hole and loosen the soil with a fork. Place the Speedwell root ball in the hole at the correct depth approximately 30 cm apart – the top of the root ball should be just slightly below ground level. Refill the hole with soil, press firmly and water immediately after planting. Speedwell thrives in well-drained, fertile soil in a sunny location.
Veronica spicata in the borderThe exuberantly flowering Veronica (Speedwell) is a very popular border perennial. Flowering from July through to September. The charming pale pink to purple shades combine fantastically well with other border plants. Mix Veronica spicata with Lavatera 'Sweet Dreams' and Delphinium (Larkspur) for example. Veronicas also look lovely planted next to roses.
Veronica spicata is a lovely perennial from Mediterranean climes. The flower spikes are very elegant and appear all summer long. Suitable as a cut flower.
Water your Veronicas regularly to avoid the roots from drying out. You can encourage reflowering by regularly removing all overblown flowers from your Veronicas. We advise regularly adding plant food when watering during the summer to encourage an abundance of flowers. Protect the Veronica from sharp frosts with a layer of fallen leaves or straw.
