Columnar Ornamental Cherry - Tree

The Columnar Ornamental Cherry grows best in the open ground. Make sure the rootball is well-moistened by soaking it in a bucket of lukewarm water before planting. Prepare a suitable hole in good fertile garden soil. Improve poor garden soil by mixing in some compost and cow manure granules. Plant the root ball of the Columnar Ornamental Cherry at the appropriate depth in the hole. The top of the root ball should be just slightly below ground level. Plant the root ball next to a sturdy tree pole and place a tree strap around the pole and trunk. Fill the hole with soil and press firmly. Give it plenty of water immediately after planting. Place your tree in an area with complete sunshine.    

The Columnar Ornamental Cherry is a wonderful species. This slow-growing pillar-shaped tree takes up little space and is therefore also suitable for a small garden. It also experiences a very rich bloom. In April and May, its branches get smothered with light pink flowers - just imagine them! The Columnar Ornamental Cherry is also excellent as a solitary plant. It is originally from Japan and therefore, it is sometimes called the Japanese Serrulata.

Columnar Ornamental Cherry is a strong tree that requires minimal maintenance. In June, you can remove the branches that are too long and misplaced branches and if necessary completely remove branches with different flower colours. Further pruning is not necessary.
