Clematis 'Avant Garde' - Plant
Make sure that the roots of Clematis 'Avant Garde' are soaked by placing in a bucket full of lukewarm water before planting. Prepare a suitable hole and loosen the soil. The top of the root ball should be just slightly below ground level. Fill the hole with soil and press firmly. Water immediately after planting. Place this climber in full sun or semi shade.
Clematis 'Avant Garde' is an excellent climberClematis 'Avant Garde' is a good hardy climber that can beautifully decorate a pergola or fence and is ideal for disguising unattractive bare walls. The large-flowered Clematis 'Avant Garde' is in perfect harmony planted alongside roses. Combine with the Climbing Dual Rose 'Mystery Wonder' to create an enchanting floral display.
The large, unusual red and pink double flowers of Clematis 'Avant Garde' are quite robust. In the centre, the petals are shorter and in the shape of a big pompon. The flowers of this plant appear on shoots that were formed in the previous year.
Clematis 'Avant Garde' dislikes dry soil so water more often during dry periods. You can keep its ‘feet’ cool and moist by planting low growing plants around the clematis. Now and again a mulch of compost mixed with garden fertilizer will be appreciated. This climbing plant grows well along a fence or pergola. Give young plants a hand with climbing by attaching them to a support as they grow.
Lightly pruning Clematis 'Avant Garde'The Clematis 'Avant Garde' with large double flowers is an early flowering variety. In March you can lightly prune all the stems back to a strong pair of buds. Remove dead or damaged stems and cut off any faded flowers during the summer.
